Subject: Inferno Date: Fri, 1 May 1998 00:38:17 EDT Hara Arena Dayton, Ohio May 1, 1998 Tony Calvoni: Welcome, fans, to another exciting night of Inferno action. I'm Tony Calvoni, here with "The Living Legend" Barry Zybrosco, and "The Genius" Mike Tenacious. We have a jam packed card in store for you, so let's get right to our opening matchup. Nightmare vs. Scorpion Nightmare owned the opening minutes of this matchup. Within the two minute mark, he was able to pull off several of his big moves, including Tombstone Piledrivers, Shoulder Breakers, and Full Nelson Slams. Tired and hurt, Scorpion war able to come back and pull off some moves of his own, including some thundering Body Slam, and even a Powerslam for a two-count, but the comeback was fleeting - the damage had been done. Nightmare managed to stop Scorpion's fire with a Nightmare Neck Breaker, which scored him the three count. Result: Nightmare by Pinfall at 4:10 The Evil Dead vs. The Job Squad Dale Winters started the matchup against Fleshmonger. A good trade off of moves ensued, with Fleshmonger having a slight advantage. When the giant zombie started to pull off move devastating moves, Winters was forced to tag to El Cosmico. The minutes that ensued involved El Cosmico receiving the BIGGEST @$$ KICKING of his MFWL career. Fleshmonger worked over El Cosmico for a couple of minutes, then tagged out to Parasite, who finished the job. Kamikaze was never legally allowed to participate in the match, which ended with El Cosmico forced to submit to Parasite's Gift to the Gods hanging neck tree. Result: The Evil Dead by submission at 5:32 (miraculously under 8 minutes) Dream Master vs. Mr. Homicide Dream Master came on strong in the opening minutes. He dominated the match to the point that he was pulling off big moves at the two minute mark. Much like the Nightmare/Scorpion match, Homicide looked as though he didn't stand a chance. It was obvious that these two have a past, as Dream Master has never been seen to be as relentless as he was in this match. But Homiced quickly thought up a plan B. As he made his way to his feet, from a Lights Out DDT, he grabbed Dream Master by the tights and yanked him through the ropes to the outside. Knowing full well it was "now or never" Homicide followed out the dazed Dream Master and began his first real assualt of the match. But Dream Master still had some fight left in him, and he began to give as good as he got. Eventually, this turned into a classic "the hell with the match, let's BRAWL!" and both men were counted out as they're battle took them straight up the aisle and into the broadcast booth. The Job Squad came down to break up the fight (as Jobbers tend to due) as it looked like these two combatants would never quit. Eventually, the two were separated and each made their way back to the dressing room area. Result: Double Count-Out (draw) The Navy Seals vs. The 421 OCZ 4-Life A classic match-up, pitting two teams that are looking to rise the ranks toward the goal. The OCZ had an early lead, as R.D. Slender and Big Poppa successfully managed to cut Nasty Nick off from his partner. The two OCZ took turns beating down Grundle. But all changed when the ref got kicked in the face by Grundle when he received the wrong end of a Big Poppa powerslam. With the ref out cold, the two teams exploded "extreme" style. Chairs were brought into the ring, bodies were flung against the steel guard rail. In the midst of everything, Slender removed one of the turnbuckles and slammed Dirty Dick’s head into the metal connector, causing bloodshed and knocking Dick out. The ref made it back to his feet as Slender was about to whip Nick into the same, unprotected, corner. But Nick reversed the throw! At the same time, Sgt. Stevie Wonder leaped from the crowd and knocked Big Poppa off the ring apron. Slender rammed his back hard into the exposed corner post and Nick rolled up the stunned OC without fear of a pin save. The ref made the three count and The Seals got the victory. Result: The Navy Seals by Pinfall at 6:54 Hare Razer vs. Fool Killer This could have been Fool Killer’s finest match yet. He took control of the behemoth Red Death for the first minute and a half. Hare Razer began to mount a comeback, but once Fool Killer adjusted, he was back in control. I’ve watched several Hare Razer matches, and miraculously Fool Killer seemed to have been Razer’s toughest opponent yet. But, as always, Fool Killer got ripped off of the win. Shortly after 5 minutes, Hare Razer pulled off an Avalanche Slam that knocked Fool Killer unconscious! Hare Razer pulled out a win, even though he was seriously losing in points. FK…I was extremely impressed. There is a lot of untapped potential there and it won’t be long until the wins start pouring in. Result: Hare Razer by KO at 5:03 The Pirates of The Caribbean vs. The Masters Another classic match-up! The winner of this match will go on to face Sick and Sexy for the belts. With such a chance at stake, both teams were in there prime. The big shocker of the night was the performance of Cortez. Usually the weaker links of The Pirates, Cortez outshined the other three participants as he firmly stood his ground throughout the match. This one went on FOREVER folks. It could have gone either way. Alpha had managed to pull off an Alpha Bomb, which I thought would end it because he had Cortez pinned far into The Master’s corner, but Cruz made the save at 2 and 7/8. Soon after, Cortez tagged in Cruz seconds before Omega nailed him with a vicious clothesline. The force of the blow sent BOTH wrestlers over the top rope. With that in mind, Cruz took advantage, wrapping on his Neck Extender on Alpha who eventually gave in. Result: The Pirates of The Caribbean by Sumission at 13:54 (seriously!) MAIN EVENT for the World Light-Heavyweight Championship Shadow (challenger) vs. Rebel (champion) I know this is the MAIN EVENT, but we all know who won this one. The "curse of the paper champion" lived on at Inferno (hopefully this will be the last time, since the new Title rule foes into effect starting next week.) I see no need to get into specifics here. The only two people who really care about an extensive script would be me and Tyson, and the two of us already discussed this one earlier in the week when I found out the result. To sum things up for those keeping score, Shadow won the first fall at 6:12 and rallied for an extremely quick win at 2:11. Both wins were by a Fade to Black camel clutch. Result: Shadow by Submission (x2) at 8:23 (total) to become a two time World Light Heavyweight Champion.
